The town of Danville and the Tri-Valley Visitor's Bureau are asking residents to take a staycation this Memorial Day weekend. Foodies, gourmands, cooking enthusiasts and locavores will convene downtown to discover Danville's thriving food scene during Simply Delicious Danville.
The May 26 event, in its pilot year, will be a culinary walking tour that features downtown restaurants, wine bars and specialty shops as well as the farmers market. The town has partnered with 11 different businesses that will conduct demonstrations throughout the day and offer special discounts for attendees.
"The restaurants are thrilled, they're thrilled that there's an event that's targeting what they do and showcasing their uniqueness," Bergman said. "We have a lot of unique restaurants that offer special artisan products and specialties. They shop local with their produce…not something you would find at a larger chain restaurant."
Participating businesses Amber Bistro, Bridges/The Vine at Bridges, Auburn James Tasting Room, Danville Chocolates, The Peasant and the Pear, Mangia Mi, Sideboard, Junebug Bakery, Incontro and the Danville Farmers Market will offer various packaged deals throughout the store during the stroll. Some will offer particularly decadent treats with the goal of increasing local tourism.
Danville Chocolates will be dipping "bride and groom" chocolate strawberries outside the store outside, showing event-goers how do decorate the white chocolate fruits like tuxedoes and bride's dresses.
"I think they're great events just to get out in the community, meet people and show what our store is doing and how we do things differently than the big corporate companies," said Danville Chocolates Manager Bri Moore.
The Discover Danville Association will also work with retailers to create a "party atmosphere" to showcase downtown boutiques during the stroll.
So far, the town has sold about 70 tickets, but has capacity for 550 attendees. To encourage cut-of-area attendance, visitors who book an overnight stay at a participating Tri-Valley hotel in Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon or Danville on Friday, May 25 or Saturday, May 26 will be eligible for a $50 Visa card to spend during their stay.
Tickets are $48; those who enter the discount code "wine" upon purchase will receive a $8 discount. For more information on Simply Delicious Danville, visit www.simplydeliciousdanville.com.
