The San Ramon Valley school board is set to begin preliminary discussions Tuesday morning about public opinion and outreach concerning potential renewal of the Measure C parcel tax, which sunsets in less than two years.

The $144 parcel tax contributes $6.8 million to the school district’s budget for financial support to local school programs, according to district officials. The voter-approved tax commenced July 1, 2009 and is set to expire in June 2016.

The school board is considering whether to introduce a ballot measure to extend the parcel tax next May.

The open-session Measure C discussion Tuesday, set to begin at 8:45 a.m., will focus on the results of a voter survey conducted in July and an informational presentation about the tax renewal process and timeline.

The meeting is scheduled to take place in the district offices, 699 Old Orchard Drive in Danville.

In other business, the board will meet in closed session at 8 a.m. to discuss the appointment of a new energy manager for the district as well as discipline, dismissal or release of an employee whose name and position were not revealed publicly.

  1. We currently have SRVUSD taxes on our property from 1998,2002,2009,and 2012.
State funding has been increased finally, but they want more money yet again?
    Where does it end?

  2. BB is right, nice to hear ANOTHER say it for a change…We’re STILL paying for a number of taxes, including two that are TEN YEARS OLD or more. Once again? How can this be of surprise to ANYONE? I CONTINUE to CONTEND their LACK of accurate and TRUE accountability is sorely lacking. As I said in 2012? I’m DONE with them UNTIL such time they can be COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT to the citizens of San Ramon. Something is terribly wrong that they continue this path of deception and expect us all to continually fill their shortfall, whether that constitutes LACK of REAL planning; ambitious projects or? UNNECESSARY expenditures.

  3. You know there is a difference between the bond issues that you are referring to and the parcel tax? The bond pay for facilities like the new buildings at Cal High and Pine Valley.

The parcel tax pays for programs like music, extra core courses and class room instruction. There is a citizen committee that over sees the spending of the current parcel tax funds and I am pretty sure that any new parcel tax proposal would include such a committee. I HIGHLY suggest that you volunteer to be a member of the committee to ensure that the funds are spent according to the guidelines presented in the parcel tax proposal.

  4. Since Resident hasn’t done his/her homework, here is the link to the 2009-2016 parcel tax.

I don’t know if resident has children in the district, but the oversight committee is doing a bad job as one of the things the parcel tax is supposed to pay for is instructional materials. If that were true, we as parents wouldn’t need to pay on-line at registration for these things dressed up like donations to the classrooms – language workbooks, science lab supplies, etc. Also, it does NOT pay for music which is why Monte Vista’s Choir and Band both have Boosters as I believe the only thing the school pays for is the teacher. Sheet music, performance attire, instruments, etc. are not paid for with school funds. I believe sports are the same way, so to give them any more money to manage would be like the fox watching the hen house. DON’T FALL FOR THEIR WHINING THEY DON’T HAVE ENOUGH!!!!
