Absentee ballots prevail

A record 58.7 percent of Californians cast their ballots by mail in the June 3 Statewide Direct Primary Election, according to results certified by Secretary of State Debra Bowen on Monday. This topped the previous record of 46.9 percent in June 2006. In the February presidential primary, nearly 41.7 percent of voters cast their ballots by mail.
