Teens Tyrannized by College Admissions Pressure

Original post made by Elizabeth LaScala, another community, on Feb 21, 2011

A reader writes: I am worried about the stress levels at our high school campus and the effect it is having on my daughter. She is a junior and is quite anxious about getting into college. She tells me that her friends at school are constantly talking about what colleges they plan to apply to and how hard it is to get in. One thing she finds especially difficult is that her friends want to compare grades and test scores. My daughter is a good student and never used to be anxious about school. All that changed this year and now she is literally worried about getting into any colleges at all. I saw the documentary, Race to Nowhere, the film about the harmful effects of stress on students, but it offered little in the way of advice. Do you have any? ~Stressed about Daughter’s Stress
