Nearly 100 supporters of Proposition 8 camped out in windy, cold and wet conditions for over two hours at the intersection of Crow Canyon Road and Camino Tassajara on Saturday in order to get out their message about Prop 8.
Bearing signs and banners, proponents of the measure waved and cheered at cars honking in support, smiling despite the driving rain and heavy wind gusts that plagued the event.
Prop 8 has stirred strong feelings on both sides of the debate and it is this passion that may have prompted one driver to express his opposition in a dangerous manner. An unknown person driving a blue BMW convertible in the northbound lanes of Camino Tassajara swung out of the lane and toward the Prop 8 supporters and veered back into the traffic lane with only feet to spare.
Supporters on the corner scrambled back from the oncoming vehicle and then came right back to the curb when it was past. One unidentified woman, angry yet undaunted, said, "I will not be deterred" as she moved back to her position by the roadway.
Rallies on both sides of the issue have been scheduled throughout the area in these final days leading up to Nov. 4.
