Ace nature photographer Joe Christianson, a senior at San Ramon Valley High, went hiking in Las Trampas right after the heavy rains and shared this gorgeous photo of the waterfall off Madrone Trail near Camille Avenue in Alamo. How fitting since the East Bay Regional Park District, which is responsible for the 5,342-acre Las Trampas Regional Wilderness and its expanded trails, is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
The district is offering its self-guided hiking program for free again this years, thanks to a partnership with Kaiser Permanente. The program includes detailed descriptions, including driving directions, to 20 of its most popular hiking, biking and equestrian trails, plus a chance to register for a free T-shirt and commemorative pin.
The guidebooks are available online and can be downloaded as PDF files. Fo to www.ebparks.org and look under the Trails Challenge logo.
