Come run for the Romans family

Forward Motion's Wednesday night run this week is a fundraiser for the family of Sgt. Erv Romans, a Danville resident who killed in the line of duty in Oakland. Runners will be asked to donate $1 (or more) for every mile they run to go into the Romans Children's Family Trust. Also, that day, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., the store will collect checks for the trust.

"We hope that we not only raise funds for this family during this most difficult time, but raise awareness within our community that one of our neighbors needs us all to pull together and offer our collective support," Vali Holroyd of Forward Motion e-mailed the regular runners, explaining that she had visited with Romans' widow to offer what help she could.

"We sincerely hope to see each and every one of you there on Wednesday," Holroyd said. "I will let Nicole know that we are doing this after her husband and his fellow officers are laid to rest on Friday. I know that she will take great comfort in knowing that she lives in such a wonderful community."

The run begins at 6:30 p.m. at Forward Motion, 432 Hartz Ave., Danville. Call 820-9966.

While we didn't personally know Ervin Romans or his family, someone close to us did. He and his family spoke glowingly of Officer Romans and his years of service.

As lifetime members of The 100 Club of Contra Costa County, I would like to invite all citizens interested in supporting our police and firefighters to look into this organization:

An excellent non-profit group that gives immediate and follow-up assistance to families of our bravest public servants in times of need.

Just noticed that the above 'Web Link' appears inactive. Try:

If that doesn't work, Google 100 Club Contra Costa County and you'll get there.
