Man hospitalized after Danville bar fight

An altercation that started at one Danville bar and ended up outside a second drinking establishment ended with one man in the hospital and another in police custody.

Danville Police Sgt. Dan Hoffman said shortly after midnight on Sunday officers were called to the 300 block of Hartz Avenue on a report of a fight. Sgt. K.C. Wen arrived on the scene and found witnesses providing assistance to a man lying on the ground.

Witnesses told Wen and other officers the incident began at the Meenar Music Club when two men began fighting with a third. Employees of the club ejected the trio to the street where they continued their argument while walking up Hartz Avenue to Elliot's Bar.

At that point, witnesses contend, one of the pair knocked the victim, a 48-year-old San Ramon resident, to the ground. The other man, identified as Nathaniel Foster, 32, of Antioch, reportedly began stomping on the victim's head.

Hoffman said a witness reported trying to pull Foster off the victim, but retreated when Foster threatened him. The two attackers backed off the victim when the man lost consciousness.

Foster was taken into custody on a charge of felony battery. The second attacker, a Pleasanton resident, was not charged. The victim was transported by ambulance to San Ramon Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Hoffman said Foster has since been released from custody as the victim refused to cooperate with investigators in pursuing the case.

Don't let Foster off the hook, cooperate with investigators & let him pay for his crime.

Keep the trash out of Danville! It's always these punks from other cities starting fights in our fine establishments. You don't see Danville guys going to Antioch bars to start fights do you?

Alchohol & Ignorance has everything to do with it - Is Meenars over serving people to intoxication - I know so, How much does Danville Police spend to have 3-4 officers in front of those bars on fridays and saturdays - everytime I have driven by they are there - where were they that night

They should proscute this Foster for his actions - 2-3 guys on one and then stomp in the head while down and out - He must be a real tough guy this Foster

Overall there are not too many fights at this place. If there was, the city would take steps to shut them down or suspend their lic. 15 years ago, that area had a few more bars at the time and there was many more fights back then so it is much better. May not be doable with the way police officers hands are tied today, but I know many cops that used to work for bars as bouncers to make a little more money and keep the peace. I am no fan of that bar but its been here at least the 17 years I have been here and feel they have a right to be here just like any other bussiness as long as they dont require any more assistance from the police that is normal for an operation like that.

I would *really* like to know why the victim/loser refused to cooperate. C'mon Geoff -- investigate!
