A man jogging eastbound at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in the bike lane on Crow Canyon Road near Barbados Drive was struck by a vehicle even though he jumped out of the way when he saw it approach.
"The driver either drifted in or swerved," said Sgt. Steve Fajardo of the San Ramon Police Department. "The vehicle continued eastbound, struck a light pole, sheered off the light pole and fled without checking on the victim."
The victim, who suffered minor leg and hand injuries, went to the hospital and then called police. They have determined from evidence left at the scene that the vehicle was a 1998-2000 black Honda Accord.
"It should have moderate to major damage on the front passenger side," said Fajardo. "The victim said it was dark and foggy and he was unable to provide any other description."
Luckily the jogger noticed the car before it hit him, noted Fajardo.
"This guy was paying attention to his surroundings," he said. "It may have been different if not – it was a good call on his part."
He also said that it is important to wear reflective gear when jogging in darkness.
Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call the San Ramon Police Department at 973-2700.
