Another hoops cliffhanger

San Ramon Valley High presented another cliffhanger Saturday night as they faced De La Salle in the 2010 CIF State Boys Division 1 Basketball Championships. The game was played at St. Mary's College to a packed gymnasium.

SRV had a five-point lead (51-46) with 3:34 left on the clock but the Spartans came back for a final 59-56 over the Wolves. De La Salle will go on to play Newark Memorial at the Arco Arena in Sacramento in the California Interscholastic Federation Regional Finals at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 20.

Several members of the SRV boys varsity basketball team were recognized by the East Bay Athletic league:

Chris McNealy: League Co-MVP

Tad Fisher : All-League - First Team

Jordan Tappin: All-League - Second Team

Jordan Guisti: All-League - Second Team

Mark Tollefsen: All League- Second Team

It would be nice to see more photos and include the De La Salle kids. There are a number of boys from Danville, Alamo and Blackhawk that go to school at DLS.

Dear Sprtndad,
I agree! The problem is we aren't sure which DLS kids live in Danville, Alamo or Blackhawk when we look at the photos. Please feel free to send in your sports photos of them.

There is no need for DLS pictures. We all know that San Ramon have more heart, dedication, passion, and love for the game basketball which was well shown! We deserved the win, which is why we deserved the pictures! We have the #1 team in the State of California as well as the #1 6th man! And if your really complaining about pictures then you really have no lafe. LATER!

I wholeheartedly agree with Sprtndad! There are lots of kids who go to DLS from the Alamo/Danville/Blackhawk area, which is why this is always such a fun competition. Too bad there are sore losers like SRV4LYF3 who always spout sour grapes. The end score doesn't lie - DLS won fair and square. Actually they almost didn't win thanks to the refs who almost called the game for SRV, but DLS always faces that just because of their reputation, yet they continue to prevail. Oh, and by the way, the sloppy, disgraceful, disrespectful display of that SRV girl who made fun of our cheerleaders - wow, talk about a classless act. Our deans would not allow, nor would our students ever act that way. On to State...keep eating your sour grapes.

Dear Nancy
It's pathetic, being a parent, that you are complaining about how DLS is lacking student photos. Nobody wants to take pictures of guys jacked up on steroids wearing black beaters wanting to fight SRVHS students. They took pictures of SRV because our 6th man was ridiculously better than yours. And the the "sloppy, disgraceful, disrespectful display of that SRV girl who made fun of our cheerleaders" is just understandable because you don't get to see many of those...

Nancy I would actually have to disagree with your claim that DLS has to overcome bias against them from the officials. From my experience of watching high school sports, it seems to me that DLS has created such a legacy that they get more questionable calls called for them than against them.

In the final match-up of the 2010 season between SRVHS and De La Salle basketball teams at St. Mary's College, I felt SRVHS was a more balanced and just slightly better team than De La Salle on the floor. De La Salle though beat SRVHS that night at the free throw line.

An extremely good and entertaining game!

Thanks to both teams for the great effort, and display of basketball talent on the court.
