Collision shuts down freeway

A traffic collision on Interstate 680 near the Sycamore Valley overpass shortly after 5 p.m. left one vehicle on its side and three lanes blocked this evening.

San Ramon Valley firefighters extricated one trapped victim using hydraulic Hurst tools and subsequently transported three patients to area hospitals.

Northbound lanes of the freeway were temporarily shut down as crews removed debris and wreckage, and southbound traffic piled up as drivers slowed to look, snarling the evening rush-hour commute in both directions.
