A tackling dummy on Monte Vista High School's football field was set on fire between Monday, July 4 and Tuesday, July 5, according to reports. Police are considering the event to be arson.
"Unknown persons lit a plastic foam tackling dummy on fire at the high school," said Lt. Jeff Moule. The row of dummies, commonly used during practice for the lineman push, was left to the side of the field.
An area of synthetic turf underneath the dummy was also burnt and there were fireworks in the ground around the area of the fire, Moule said. The San Ramon Valley Unified School District estimates the damages at $5,000.
The incident was reported on Wednesday and police have no suspects, leads or witnesses. School district officials did not return calls for comment.
