San Ramon Valley groups plans special events for Veterans Day

This year's Veterans Day program Monday, Nov. 11, at the San Ramon Valley High School Performing Arts Center, 501 Danville Blvd., will open with a salute to Vietnam Veterans as a video/slide presentation is shown at 10 a.m. with background music from the Vietnam era. The official program honoring all Veterans will start at 11 a.m. Col. Allen Cruz, USMC (ret), will be the Keynote Speaker. For more information, contact Ray La Rochelle at Ray-L@pacbell.net.

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors will honor all veterans in a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 651 Pine St., Martinez. All Veterans and community members are invited to attend. In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, there will be a special tribute to Veterans of the Korean War. Maj. Gen. Dan Helix, Korean War Veteran and Mayor of Concord, will be the guest speaker.

Also, an open house is set at the Veteran's Memorial Building, 400 Hartz Ave., Danville, over the Veterans Day weekend. The museum will be open and staffed with docents and members of the historical committee to speak about the history of the Veterans Memorial Building and its exhibits and military collections.

This special display will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9; and noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10, and Monday, Nov. 11. A collection of military vehicles will also be on display.
