Danville Councilwoman Stepper to seek re-election

Danville Councilwoman Karen Stepper has announced her intent to run for a fourth term this November.

"Serving on the council has been an extremely awesome opportunity," Stepper said during a phone interview Thursday.

Stepper, first elected in 2002, said she seeks another four years on the council in part to continue working with other town leaders on important infrastructure projects, historical resources and effective budgeting.

"What we've done has been a really strong team effort from the town to make sure that as we went through these hard budget times that everybody gave the best ideas and found the most efficient way to make sure that all those programs continued in Danville that make Danville special," she added.

Stepper also pointed to transportation, public safety and parks as other focus areas for her as a councilwoman.

Stepper has to wait another six months to make her candidacy official. The nomination period opens in mid-July.

Thanks to you, Karen, we now have the hideous Elworthy Ranch "Quail Ridge" 100- unit (including a dozen apartments) eyesore being built by KB Homes. You denied our Measure S public vote on that project, which we voters would have voted down! Then you denied our vote on the SummerHill Homes development for the Diablo Road area! You also voted to bring more high-density housing to our increasingly congested town and schools. Anyone that votes for you must be either a developer looking to make big bucks, ignorant of what is going on in Danville and what you have done on the Council, or just plain crazy.

Please, Lord, save us from Karen Stepper!

The only team effort you've been involved in Stepper is the "TEAM OF TURDS" on the Danville City Council. Seems like you're declaring your candidacy this early is an effort to test the waters for possible support. Don't waste your effort or the developers money. If we can't get rid of the five of you all at once we'll do it one at a time and you've just become the first of five in the citizen's cross hairs for the next election.

Karen,
I will be voting for you as you are a person of integrity. You look to best represent all views in a Danville, not just a few minority angry voices with agendas. You volunteer your personal time to attend community events. I challenge those that suppose you to become active participants in community projects, so they work with you to find solutions. It is so easy to voice opinion. Karen is a person that is making a difference in our community. The last election speaks volumes to voters choices. Please review the number of Danville voters and how much of the vote was in support of our current elected officials. Majority rules...

Happy with the direction of Danville! Great job Danville Council.

Resident of a Danville for more than thirty years .

@Thank You: The last election was a fraud and NO INDICATION OF DANVILLE VOTERS' SENTIMENTS ABOUT THE NEXT COUNCIL ELECTION. Voters by and large knew nothing about the proposed 2030 General Plan yet and all its provisions for high-density housing (because the Council purposely scheduled the first hearing about it for just before the election, and the bulk of the hearings for AFTER the election), nor did they know yet that the Council was going to flout Danville voters' Measure S right to vote on the SummerHill 69+ home development. They also didn't know that the Council would refuse to place on the ballot an initiative petition signed by thousands of verified Danville registered voters to extend Measure S's protection of Danville's remaining indefinitely.

Now that the voters are aware of what Stepper and her cronies have been doing in total disregard of their constituents, they will not vote for her.

If the last local election was a fraud and the highly educated, high income population of Danville was uninformed, what do you call the last county, state & presidential elections with voters who are even more uninformed? People are only interested in their own lives - so the local, vocal minority (some of whom do not live in Danville), railing against everything involving the Danville town council, is preaching to - the vocal minority. The town does a lot of things right & is financially solvent. However, the Vine & new Elworthy homes are an eyesore. And don't get me started on the tree removal along the roads. I don't understand why the planning commission can't visualize what these projects will look like, during the planning stage, before they approve them. We need new planning commissioners, if anything, that adhere to building specs congruent with the character of the downtown. Yes, we could use some new eyes & ideas on projects, but not just people with an ax to grind (that's why they don't get elected - you can't just be Against everything). That being said - God help us with the soon to be re-built Danville Hotel area. Let's hope the Castle Company has more sense & takes the initiative to make this a 'good esthetic fit' that they can be proud of, no matter what was already approved. After all, the informed will know who built it.

As has been reiterated many times in the past, Stepper is a shill for those who would plow over the very last of our open space, and she deserves not another minute on our council.
As for "Thank You", are you sure you aren't from Danville, Kentucky? Perhaps there's another Karen Stepper? Because you cannot possibly be talking about our local darling with the word "integrity" in the same sentence. Not unless you are growing funny mushrooms in your back yard.

@Linda Styles: You are so right. I saw that same post awhile back when someone wrote in against the Town Manager Joe Calabrigo, and also the mayor, Developer Storer. It is probably the Town's highly-paid "Public Information [really, disinformation] officer, Geoff Gillette, who regularly trolls this site to protect the self-serving council members and Town staff from negative criticism.

Btw, we need new Council members to review the Staff's inflated compensation. Calabrigo, for example, makes $300,000+ for "managing" a bedroom suburb of 40,000 people. I know corporate presidents that make far less than that.
