Streetwise: Christmas memories
Dick Waldo, Retired Danville mayor and Town Council member: When I was a kid in Bismarck, ND, it was too cold to go outside and build a snowman, so we stayed inside and opened presents around a big tree in the living room with lots of ornaments and lights. The tree always came from Minnesota, because there were no pine trees around Bismarck. I lived there until I joined the Navy when I was 18 years old during WWII. I was discharged on Treasure Island in 1946 and went to Stanford.
