Danville students go on odyssey

The Odyssey of the Mind team from Stone Valley Middle School team Gnarly Noodles took their Danville Weekly to the State Competition of Odyssey of the Mind in Visalia last weekend where they placed third out of 17 teams. Team members are: Ian Schutzman, Jessica Lawrence, Sarah Sampson, Laura Leach, Nick Cochran and Vikram Ravi.

Two Odyssey of the Mind teams from Sycamore Valley Elementary placed second in their divisions and are going on to the world competition held at Michigan State University in East Lansing from May 23-26. Awarded second place in their division for the problem "The Large and Small of It," were Evan Jaffe, Sean Jaffe, Grace Reckers, Seddon Macholz, Sara Kelkar and Katie Klass. Another team from Sycamore Valley comprised of Florentin Von Haugwitz, Ryan Mullins, Ethan Brouwer, Alex Anzoategui, Jake Carlier, Conor Mullins and Grant Rivas placed second in their division for the problem "Out of the Box Balsa."

A third Sycamore team placed fourth in its division for the problem "Tag-em": Ashley Page, Ed Kudey, Erin Leeds, Jiwan Karunatilake, Rex Lueth and Vishnu Peri. This team was also awarded the OMER award for outstanding qualities in the spirit and philosophy of the Odyssey of the Mind program.
