Fun with fashion at Rakestraw

Tim Gunn, one of the flamboyant fashion aficionados from the popular TV Show "Project Runway," will share insights from his new book at Rakestraw Books at 7 p.m., Friday, May 4.

Gunn is promoting "Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste & Style" at a fashion event called "Project FiveFour07" at Rakestraw, 409 Railroad Ave., Danville. He discusses aspects of creating and maintaining personal style, how to dress for various occasions, how to shop (from designer to chain to vintage stores), and more. The event will have a dozen up-and-coming designers recently graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco. Each designer will present one gown in a runway show to be judged by a panel of celebrity judges, including Carolyn Rovner, fashion editor of Diablo magazine.

Tickets are $30 and benefit the Princess Project, which provides prom dresses and accessories to high school girls who cannot otherwise afford them. For information, call 837-7337.
