'Kids Play the Darndest Things' this weekend

The Pro Arte Symphony Orchestra will present "Kids Play the Darndest Things," at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 12. The contest features musical wizards ages 8 to 18 in competition at the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church.

Michael Peng, 11, from San Ramon, won first place in qualifying rounds in two categories: Best Russian Composition and Classical Era. He also just learned that he is going to be performing at Carnegie Hall next week. Two Danville residents also competed: Chase Lim, 12, placed second in Modern Era; and Stacey Hsi, 16, won honorable mention.

KDFC's Dianne Nicolini will interview the young pianists before they perform. Tickets for adults are $12, or $15 at the door; youths through 18 are $7 in advance, $10 at the door. Call 943-2496 to reserve.
