asked at the Station, the thrift shop that benefits Discovery Counseling Center

What's the best item you've ever found at a thrift shop?

I got a Foosball game for my kids last Christmas, for my 8- and 9-year-old boys. I was surprised to find it. I got a really good price for it and it was exactly what we wanted.

I've found so many good things - books have been my favorites, I've found so many good ones. Hardbacks. I like the older books, the classics. And I like old sheet music. I play the piano.

A mixer, not the handheld kind, the big one that goes on the counter. It's from the '50s, and has two glass bowls that came with it. So now I can make two recipes that need a lot of beating to make the egg whites stiff - meringue cookies and pavlova, a meringue dessert. It was only $10.

I find so many great things. Right now I'm looking for things to help my son furnish his apartment. He wanted an Indian-type rug and I found one here for 25 bucks. It's perfect for his apartment. And a cooking pot. It's really always a treasure hunt.

Barbie dolls for my grandchildren. They have brand new Barbies in here and I even found a Ken doll. I have two granddaughters and every time they come over I let them take two Barbies home.
