Night Out for neighbors

Neighbors convened at block parties throughout Danville for the 24th annual National Night Out on Tuesday evening, Aug. 7, and those registered with the Police Department had an officer stop by to say hello and hand out goodies to the children.

National Night Out is held the first Tuesday in August to "Give Neighborhood Crime and Drugs a Going Away Party," organized by the National Association of Town Watch, an anti-crime group promoting alliances with law enforcement.

"We really ought to do this more often," said Bob Riley, a Danville resident who coordinated block parties in this neighborhoods around El Capitan Drive and Balceta Court.
