Teen signals possession of drugs

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy from Monte Vista High School in Danville for allegedly carrying drugs last week, said police Sgt. Troy Craig.

Officer Mike Ireland stopped the boy, who was driving a 2007 gray Chrysler SUV, for making a turn onto Clydesdale Drive from Diablo Road without signaling, at 5:15 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13. Ireland saw the suspect had two friends in the car, and he smelled cigarette smoke.

He gained consent from the suspect to search him and found the boy had marijuana in his front pocket. Also, after further inquiries, Ireland found hallucinogenic mushrooms in the car's consol. The boy was given a citation for possession of drugs and released to his father, Craig said.

"This is one of those situations it is upsetting to look at as a parent," Craig said. He added that teens being irresponsible cannot only hurt themselves, but hurt others, too.
