Bringing the world home

Stephanie Cappiello, a San Ramon Valley High School grad who now attends UCLA, helped Danville Rotary members create a map of the world at Charlotte Wood Middle School. She was active in the Rotary high school affiliate, Interact, while at high school in Danville, and her sister Ally is currently its president.

The map on the blacktop is part of a project the Rotary Club has undertaken to bring a map of the world to each of the middle schools in Danville.

"Rotarians understand the importance of helping students get a large view of the world and hope that this project will be a great educational tool for the students," said Rotary president Lori Sato.

The painting was a type of paint by numbers project, first painting dots to outline the countries using a big stencil, explained Rotary member Christa Peterson. Then Rotary and Interact members filled in the countries by color.
