Wolves water polo on tidal wave of wins

San Ramon Valley High faced Monte Vista in its pool Tuesday afternoon last week for the varsity cross-town water polo rivalry. The Wolves won, 14-7, making them an undefeated 6-0 in the East Bay Athletic League. The Mustangs, who were undefeated until this match, are now 5-1 in EBAL.

San Ramon Valley had just returned from the Villa Park tournament in Southern California over the weekend of Sept. 27-29. The Wolves were one of two teams from Northern California and came in third in a field of 32; their only loss was to the other Nor Cal team, Sacred Heart Prep from Atherton. They defeated the host team, Villa Park, which has only lost twice in its last 52 matches, making the victory something akin to beating De La Salle at football during its winning streak. Porter Kalbus was named to the "All Tournament" team.

Monte Vista girls varsity water polo team defeated San Ramon Valley, 13-4, to remain undefeated in EBAL. The Lady Wolves are now 5-1.

Local high school water polo teams are fed into by the club program, 680. The club program had its 12-U boys place in the Junior Olympics as well as two members make the National Junior Olympic All-American Team.
