Letters to the editor

Farm animals are most abused

Dear Editor:

I represent East Bay Animal Advocates and I am hoping to get the word out to local residents about a new campaign to place a measure on the California ballot to prevent cruelty to calves raised for veal, pigs during pregnancy and egg-laying hens. We are looking for 650,000 signatures of registered voters to get this approved for the November 2008 elections.

I personally will be all over the Bay Area collecting signatures and would love for people to know in advance what it is we are trying to do, and to be able to get into contact with me personally for more information or to volunteer to also collect signatures. My e-mail is : shanigurl@gmail.com.

The new Web site to volunteer to collect signatures was launched a few days ago: www.humanecalifornia.org

Thank you in advance for being a voice to these animals who have no rights at all and not enough room to even stand up or turn around. Farm animals are the most abused and neglected creatures on this planet; they literally have no basic rights and this is what we are fighting for, compassion for all living creatures.

Shani Campbell, San Ramon

Thanks to emergency personnel

Dear Editor:

To all who read the story last week, "Cardiac arrest: What do you do?" which was about my Mom and Dad, I want to say that I hope you never have to go through what we went through. My brother Chris and I live in Texas and came to be with my Dad and Mom for the surgery when this happened. I can not say enough about the San Ramon Fire Units.

Thank you to the 911 call taker Ronda Leen; 911 dispatcher Mary Kamacho; responding units to the house: Fire Engine #33 with Capt. Matt Dakin, paramedic Matt Terry and driver Mark Purnell; Rescue Unit #34 with Capt. Jeff Breasher, paramedic Tom McKenncie and driver Tim Morley.

And to the staff of San Ramon Regional Medical Center: You are the best in the world!

Mark Seaman, New Braunfels, Texas

One man's opinion

Dear Editor:

In elections of interest to Danville voters in 2008:

In the California Feb. 5 Presidential Primary, I endorse Republican Congressman Ron Paul (Texas-14th) for president and am opposed to the extension of term limits for state legislators.

I also oppose changing the current two-thirds requirement for California budget passage.

In the June 2008 California Primary, I endorse former Assemblyman Joe Canciamilla in the Democratic Primary for State Senate, District 7; San Ramon Mayor H. Abram Wilson in the Republican Primary, and SRVUSD Trustee Joan Buchanan in the Democrat Primary, for Member of the Assembly, District 15. For Contra Costa County Supervisor, District 3, I endorse Republican Assemblyman Guy Houston.

If admitted to associate membership in the San Ramon Valley Republican Women Federated, I will endorse the Republican nominee for Congressional District 11. If not admitted to membership, I will endorse the re-election of incumbent Democrat Congressman Jerry McNerney, Ph.D.

Ralph Hoffmann, Danville
