Ladies tennis on fire

The N.O.B.S. first Ladies Invitational was held Oct. 26 at San Ramon Valley High School, a fun day for the tennis invitees who are rated 4.0-5.0. The event was divided into two flights with six teams in each flight.

The Wimbledon Flight was won by Nancy Katz and Trish Robertson. Runners up were Christa Bakarich and Laurie Radanovich

The U.S. Open Flight was won by Karen Presnell and Mindy Engberg. Runners up were Jill Beeman and Kal Peters

The Round Robin Event concluded with a lunch and awards ceremony at the Peasant and the Pear Restaurant in Danville. Sponsors for this year's event were Wilson Rackets; Tennis, Trophies and Tee Time in Danville, owned by Frank and Linda Haswell; San Ramon Valley High School; and the Peasant and the Pear Restaurant.

The event was such a huge success that the group decided not to wait until next fall for the second annual event, but to plan a rematch in the spring with a blind draw.

"Since the level of tennis with all of the teams was so even and competitive, a blind draw will add a new twist to the fun-filled day," said Bakarich, one of the organizers.

Players included three tennis coaches - Bakarich, coach at The Athenian School; Sherri Scholl of San Ramon Valley High; and Patty Gross of Monte Vista. Tournament director was John Sutter.
