Veterans Day specials

For Veterans Day 2007, the communities of the San Ramon Valley will honor military service veterans at 10:45 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Performing Arts Center at San Ramon Valley High School. Also, a Museum of Military Memorabilia is on display at the Veterans Hall, 400 Hartz Ave., from 1-4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9; 10:45 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday; and 10:45 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.

Danville residents Georgia and Paul Cantrell are heading up a Veteran's Day weekend-long fundraising mission to benefit Operation Second Chance, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help make rehabilitation easier for wounded soldiers. They met some injured soldiers on a cruise last January and were so impressed that they felt inspired to help.

Twelve wounded soldiers are coming from Walter Reed Hospital, and will attend a Veterans Day Heroes Welcome Rally at 1 p.m. today at Pier 33 in San Francisco. Tomorrow, Saturday, they will attend the Goodguys Rod & Custom show at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, which will include a benefit concert at 2 p.m. On Sunday, they will attend Veterans Day services.

In observance of Veterans Day, schools and Town of Danville offices will be closed Monday.
