Alamo to light Big Oak Tree on Sunday

The fifth annual Alamo Tree Lighting Festival will take place at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Andrew H. Young Park, presented by the Alamo Merchant and Professional Association. The electrical outlets have been upgraded and new lights have been added, say organizers, to make the Big Oak Tree glimmer as never before.

Carolers from Monte Vista High, San Ramon Valley High, Stone Valley Middle School, Alamo Elementary and Rancho Romero Elementary will perform Christmas programs, with a grand finale combining everyone's voices into one.

The San Ramon Valley High School freshmen cheerleaders will give a rousing welcome to Santa Claus, and children will have the chance to tell him whether they have been naughty or nice. He will also gather the unwrapped toys donated to the Sheriff's Toy Drive in the barrel provided that evening.

Entertainment for the younger children will include face painting, crafts and story telling. There will be beverages and cookies and other treats for everyone, and hay bales placed around the park for seating.
