Guest conductor rehearses

Santa Claus (aka Mayor Mike Shimansky) practices for his appearance as a guest conductor with the Danville Community Band at its seasonal family concert, "A Jubilant Holiday," at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, at East Bay Fellowship, 2615 Camino Tassajara. The program will include Victor Herbert's "Babes In Toyland," the holiday favorite "Greensleeves," "An olde English Christmas," "A Chanukah Celebration" and many other familiar and exciting Christmas songs, including a Christmas Brass Quintet.

The 85-member concert band is led by Dr. Lawrence Anderson but he will step aside to let the guest conductor in his red suit lead at least one piece. The concert and parking are free but last year the performance drew a full house so concertgoers are advised to arrive early.
