Getting ready to - play ball!

Girls gather Dec. 16 to prove their agility with the ball at tryouts for the San Ramon Valley Girls Athletic League for the seventh-eighth-grade division, held at San Ramon Valley High School.

During tryouts, the coaches evaluate the girls' skill levels and put together teams.

SRVGAL was formed in 1974 for girls ages 5 to 18. It is the largest girls' softball organization west of the Mississippi; a typical season involves 1,500 players, 120 league teams and 240 coaches. Its 2008 season begins in March.
