Bowl tomorrow to benefit Women of Congo

The Rotary club of Danville/Sycamore Valley is holding a Women of Congo Bowl-A-Thon Fundraiser between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow, March 21, at Danville Bowl, 200 Boone Court in Danville. The event will raise money for additional medical equipment for surgeries to correct damage done to women by sexual violence. To sign up to bowl, call Leslie Baxter at 460-0969, or just show up to donate.

Rotary members Helen Reese and Melanie Prole have been involved in a dedicated effort to help these women, working through the Rotary's International Fund. They hope this fundraiser will help more women get the medical treatment they need. Since 1998, approximately 5 million people have died in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the surrounding region as a result of what has been called the "African First World War," according to a Rotary Club press release.

Thank you for including our event in the Danville Weekly. Although our club is in Danville, neither I or Helen live in Danville. Helen heard about the story from a friend who saw it and was impressed and sent her a check for Women of Congo.
