Wrapped up in quilting project

Second-graders in Nancy Rugani's class at Green Valley Elementary School helped make a quilt for an auction to raise money for computer labs, music and the library.

The theme of the quilt is "Olivia the Piglet," after a children's book the class has enjoyed this year. "She's kind of our mascot," Rugani said. Each student drew or painted a square to add to the professional drawings of the cartoon pig, taken from the book illustrated by Ian Falconer, cover illustrator for the New Yorker magazine.

"It really unified the kids," Rugani said.

The 10th annual auction will be held at Diablo Country Club at 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23. For more information, call Danielle Bennett at 838-4655.
