Danville resident Marv DeBernardi died Sept. 26 at the age of 68. He was born Feb. 29, 1940, in Douglas, Ariz., to Frances and Michael DeBernardi.
He was preceded in death by his son David DeBernardi. He is survived by his wife Lil; son Jeffrey Debernardi; step-son Christopher (Leslie) Mehigan; three grandchildren; brothers Mike (Betty) DeBernardi and Don (Carma) DeBernardi; nephews and many other family and friends. A celebration of his life was held at his son's home in Pleasanton on Oct. 19.
Anita Nelson, a resident of Alamo, died Sept. 29 in Alamo at the age of 89.
She was born July 26, 1919, in New Mexico. She met her late husband Harry in Panama while working as a nurse during World War II. They were married in New Mexico and moved to Berkeley to be near her sister and brother-in-law. In 1950, Anita and Harry moved to Alamo, and she became an active parishioner of St. Isidore Catholic Church in Danville where she and Harry celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry C. Nelson in 1997, and her daughter-in-law Julie Roberts-Nelson in 2000. She is survived by her daughter and sons, Suzanne (Dan) Cockrum of Modesto, Gregory Nelson of Orinda, Harry Carlos (Jana) Nelson of Newport Beach, and Steven Nelson of Hollywood; sisters and brother Stella Montaya of Santa Fe, Monica Halford of Santa Fe, and Gus Sosaya of San Diego; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A Memorial Mass was held Oct. 11 at St. Isidore Church in Danville with inurnment at the Alamo Cemetery. Leonard 'Bob' R. Swartz
Leonard "Bob" R. Swartz died Oct. 10 at the age of 80.
He was born Sept. 30, 1928, in Oakland, and graduated from Fremont High School. He married and raised his family in the Redwood Heights district until he moved to Danville in 1994.
He was preceded in death by Doreen, his wife of 33 years; and sisters Lorraine VanDerHagen and Bernice Lewis. He is survived by long time companion and love, Norlene Hunt; four children, John Swartz of Oakland, Christine Swartz of Oakland, Jennifer Foss of Danville, and Martin Swartz of Oakland; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother Cliff Swartz of Napa; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. A memorial service was Oct. 26 at Oak Hill Park in Danville. Remembrances may be made in his memory to Hospice of the East Bay or the American Cancer Society.
