The American Red Cross, Northern California Region, is having a volunteer orientation at 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9, and at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Contra Costa Donor Center at 140 Gregory Lane in Pleasant Hill. This is a chance to learn about the different ways to help, by greeting and giving information to donors, by thanking the community's blood donors, or by posting fliers at key locations. Dates and times are subject to change according to interest. Call (510) 594-5211 to learn more.
To encourage blood donations, the Red Cross has launched Project: Plasma. From Jan. 1-23, donors at the five East Bay locations can be entered into a drawing for a new 42-inch plasma HDTV. The drawing will take place Jan. 27, giving the winner plenty of time to set up that new TV before the Super Bowl gets under way Feb. 1.
