A coalition of teachers, parents and teacher organizations and politicians are gathering tomorrow to help teachers in California get equal rights to Social Security. Bills HR 235 and SB 484 recently have been presented to state legislators that would repeal laws which dictate teachers cannot collect Social Security from deceased spouses or their own paid when they were employed in other jobs. California teachers pay into a separate retirement fund, the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).
The gathering will take place from 11 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 21, in Room 100 at Iron Horse Middle School in San Ramon. Everyone is invited to attend.
