Streetwise

Asked at various downtown Danville bars

What's the funniest thing that's happened to you while working Cinco de Mayo?

The power went out at 5 p.m. (prime time!). I was working the satellite bar, which had the only drawer that would accept cash. The place was packed, and I was using the maracas to entertain the customers to keep them occupied so they wouldn't go somewhere else.

I'm a bartender, so that's a tough one. I'd have to say years ago when Aaron was three sheets to the wind and danced on the bar without his shirt on. It was priceless. Bless your heart, D.T.A.!

We ran a promotion, which required a burro and a rooster on the front patio. At the end of the evening the truck that brought the burro vanished. So, with no other resources, the burro rode home in the back seat of a Ford Taurus where it proceeded to poop.

After work I encountered a person looking for her car. She seemed to have had too many tequilas, and I offered to help her. We searched the entire parking lot and never found it. I ask her, "Where were you before this place?" It turns out she was dropped off earlier at a bar across the parking lot, so I called her a cab.

Well, it wasn't even May yet when they were doing a Mexican hat dance with hats made out of papier-mâché. After a bottle of Jose Cuervo, we were all ballroom dancing and calling each other Paco and attempting to speak Spanish.
