The Danville-Alamo Branch of AAUW placed second in California out of 152 branches for its monetary contributions to the AAUW Educational Foundation, it was announced at the state convention April 25. The foundation is the world's largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women, awarding $4.5 million to 267 outstanding applicants for this year's fellowships and grants programs. It supports scholars around the globe, teachers and activists in local communities, women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented.
The Danville-Alamo branch raised $19,770, most of which was proceeds from its annual Garden Tour and individual contributions. The ninth annual Garden Tour takes place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., May 8-9, with eight featured gardens. Tickets are $35 ($25 for seniors 65 and older) and can be purchased at the East Bay Flower Co. in the Danville Livery.
