Danville spelling champ to take the stage for a musical comedy

Evan O'Dorney, the Danville resident who won the 2007 Scripps National Spelling Bee at the age of 13, will be the guest of honor at a production Sunday of the Broadway award-winning musical comedy, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee."

The comedy shows six young people learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make one a loser. The show is described as "tuneful, offbeat and at times heartwarming" and offers audience members the opportunity to become part of the action as onstage spellers.

This weekend's four productions at the Bankhead Theater, 2400 First St. in Livermore each will have a celebrity speller, including disk jockeys, a winemaker and Evan O'Dorney, who will appear at the 2 p.m. Sunday performance.

To purchase tickets call 373-6800 or visit www.bankheadtheater.org.
