Kiwanis Fourth of July Parade begins at 9 a.m.
The theme of the 2009 Kiwanis Danville July 4th Parade is "Celebrating Our Youth," and this year's grand marshal will be hundreds of children riding bikes and skateboards, etc. The parade begins at 9 a.m. on Hartz Avenue near the high school and continues south on Hartz to just past Sycamore Valley Road, a total of 1.2 miles.
Chairs cannot be put on the route to reserve spots before 6 p.m. July 3. The reviewing stand is across the street from Danville Automotive & Tire at 535 San Ramon Valley Blvd.
Red, White & Blue Picnic in the Park
San Ramon will hold its Red, White and Blue Picnic in its Central Park, beginning at 5 p.m. with music broadcast from KKIQ radio. There will not be any food booths or live entertainment on-site this year so plan to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages; organizers request that people be kind to their pets and leave them secure at home.
The charge for parking in lots surrounding Central Park will be $10 per car.
Fireworks end the holiday
A fireworks display synchronized to music will begin at 9:30 p.m. For those not in Central Park, the accompanying music for the fireworks can be heard on KKIQ radio, 101.7.
There will be road closures on Camino Ramon from approximately 7-10 p.m. The Iron Horse Trail will be closed from 9-11 p.m. near the Marketplace Shopping Center due to its proximity to the launch of the fireworks.
