County supervisors ponder demise of SRV Planning Commission

Original post made on Jul 27, 2007

What some consider Alamo, Diablo and Blackhawk's strongest local planning voice is on the chopping block. But before Contra Costa County Supervisors decide whether to swing the hatchet, they will need more community input and research, supervisors said this week.

Dear Natalie,

This statement is the issue with incorporation in Alamo. "In Alamo, the "sunset" could play a key role in some residents' stance on incorporation - at least amongst those who are educated on the issue, Gibson said. For many wavering on their opinion on incorporation, disbanding the San Ramon Valley Planning Commission may force residents to push harder toward becoming an entity that can call its own shots."

A city council that calls its own shots is not representative of Alamo residents and their neighborhoods. A defined general plan, limitations on council authority and immediate citizens' oversight are mandatory requirements for a majority vote for incorporation. Otherwise Alamo residents would be duplicating the blind faith that we put in the CCC-BOS to serve our needs, interests and advisory.

Dear Natalie,

Nevada is a long way from the San Ramon Valley. Would Mr. Murray care to comment on his interests in the San Ramon Valley?

Vince -
Would you please explain what Michael Murray / Murray Michael has to do with the SRV commission story?

Dear Ms. Young,

Michael Murray is a member of the Contra Costa County Planning Commission that has proposed ending the existence of the San Ramon Valley Regional Planning Commission. If he is Michael Murray, the CEO of the Forma Group, a Nevada manufactured housing builder, then his relationship with building and builders raises questions about his protection our communities and neighborhoods from sprawling in-fill, rezoning, related infrastructure and traffic issues.

I am a planning commissioner for the county and live in Danville. My family has lived in the area since 1848 and we appreciate the communty that has been built here in the valley. People look out for each other and our kids can grow up in a safe and nurturing environment. I would like to keep it that way and act accordingly.
