A new supervisor and a MAC

Original post made by Hal Bailey, Alamo, on Aug 9, 2007

Dear Alamo Neighbors,

As unincorporated communities, with the support of city neighborhoods, plan replacement of a majority of Contra Costa County Supervisors, it will become possible to withdraw the June 2006 MAC standardization and return to unique Municipal Advisory Councils appropriate to the diverse communities of Contra Costa County. Take a moment to review,, as a MAC in the Pescadero region of San Mateo County, and you will see a council and committees that can perform the overall functions needed by unincorporated communities.

With a Regional MAC representing 20,000 or more residents, the voice of those residents becomes politically loud at the county. With the capacity to fund special political interests including counsel, the committees have the ability to be political force behind MAC advisories.

Broad community involvement in committees, ad hoc groups and action taskforces could make MACs attractive to new supervisors and supported by an alliance of Contra Costa unincorporated communities and neighborhoods. In alliance, Contra Costa unincorporated communities are a political force as strong as the largest city and an alliance of MACs could be an exceptionally LOUD voice.

Does that deserve some thought?
