Lost and found signs

Original post made by Jenny, Alamo, on Oct 16, 2008

Lost: Obama-Biden posters from front yard of Livorna Heights Road properties (didn't know it had legs - had staked it to the ground)
Please return to owners - no questions asked! (No charges will be pressed for stealing/trespassing/censorship.)
And, by the way, Joan Buchanan for Assembly signs were also removed - though at least one was left on the street.

On Livorna Road, the signs are different every day!!! I'm finding out a lot about my neighbors by what signs they are putting onto their lawns. Very sad to me.

Two years ago (the last Congressional election), fathers waiting for children trick-or-treating at my home, made taunting remarks about the McNerney sign in my yard. The next night the sign was taken. This year, as I return home each day, I hold my breath wondering whether the Obama and McNerney signs will still be there when I arrive. Fortunately, so far they have been.

Being a Democrat is hardly a fringe position, yet I've often been made to feel that it is.

Danville Weekly, you might want to look in to the number of Democratic versus Republican signs which have been reported missing. It would be interesting to see what conclusions about mutual tolerance can we draw from the findings.

I think Linda has a good idea. I also would like to know about the number of signs stolen and what camps seem to do this more often.

Bill shouldn't make conclusions about "camps" taking the signs. The missing signs are probably due to "kids" taking them as a prank or dare, than as a political overture by one side or the other. When I was a teen, I took Dukakis signs and put them in yards with Bush signs or put Dukakis stickers on Bush signs, due to my nature as a teen, though I didn't formally represent any side, as I couldn't vote yet. I don't support anyone removing any signs from a yard, but we should embrace the political passion folks have regarding the political process, at least folks are not apathetic. One must keep in mind, that when you wear or display your loyalities in public, you must weather the storm, whether it be positive or negative.

Not sure if the demographics have changed since we moved here in 98 but when we went to vote that year my husband was told by the poll volunteers "Wow, a Democrat - don't see many of you around here". I'm joyous to see the Obama/Biden signs & bumper stickers around Danville!

I'm all for the signs, as long as they are removed following the election. Too many are left for the town or homeowners to pick up. I'm also pleased to see more Obama signs around town.

It is entirely possible that friends, neighbors, or even some Democrats removed the signs to avoid the embarassment to the occupants at being identified as Obama supporters.

To assume that they were removed by Republicans is political demagoguery!

Dear Dems: If Duffy's right, pls bring those Obama signs right over and post them in MY yard. Funny -- I had some McCain signs in 2000, but now but they're all in with the Bushes.

To the fatherless souls who steal Anti-Prop 8 signs in Danville:

Thank you -- your bigotry is an inspiration. You've provided me with a reminder that this really is a battle against small-mindedness, intolerance and exclusion. Please know that I will redouble my work against this discriminatory attack on our state constitution -- and if you steal more signs, I will redouble again.

Note that this is not vandalism -- the Only Signs Removed from public places are the "Vote No on Prop 8" signs. Completely targeted.

Apropos of the above: I'm going to get replacement materials -- and then some. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE AN ANTI-PROP H8 LAWN SIGN, PLS EMAIL ME AT

Very sincerely, Tom Cushing

I don't know why there are so many Democrats in the Danville/Alamo area. As a recent transplant from Orange County, I am shocked to see so many Obama signs. Since this area seems to have residents who are successful and financially well off, very similiar to Orange County, I have to ask why would you want to vote for someone who is going to raise your taxes and then spend your hard earned money so frivously on social programs which don't encourage people to get off their butts and get up and work?

Don't miss out on the discussion!
