I appreciate R. Jean Taylor's response to the town's request but my recollection is that she initially wanted to convert the land use permit from residential to commercial for the purpose of converting the home into a swim school. The application was not approved because the residents came together and filed numerous complaints about congestion issues. That explains her design of commercial 'parking lot' look for a residential home with a circular driveway. It's obvious she intends to fight for the land use change....which I hope she knows will bring a bigger protest from the local residents.
I would appreciate an apology for the harm you have caused me by posting the above comment. You should not have relied on your recollection when a simple phone call to the Danville Planning Department would have revealed that at no time did I EVER apply for a permit to put in a swim school. I never, nor do I now, intend using 484 Diablo Road for commercial purposes, or "obviously she intends to fight for a land use change", as you claim. So the accusation you have made against me, and your citing "the application was not approved because the residents came together and filed numerous complaints about congestion issue," is completely false when referring to me and my residential property.
Furthermore, the "parking lot look for a residential home with a circular driveway" was a duplicate of the residential home just east of me on Diablo Road; the one with the fork lift and truck parked in the circular driveway, which apparently has not offended your concept of "commercial property" in a residential area.
I have spent tens of thousand of dollars to pave over dirt and gravel so you and your neighbors, some in wheelchairs, some on skateboards, and some babies in strollers, would have a safe pedestrian pathway to downtown Danville. The Town wants the asphalt removed based on old complaints against the swim school. Your ignorance of fact and irresponsible comment, may now result in a return to the dirt and gravel path, which you so richly deserve.
This dispute with the Town of Danville just highlights the problem with local government: arrogance in the face of pragmatism. Stupidly, Danville has decided to be unfriendly to business and residents by fighting with a quiet family home office that has done nothing but benefit the neighborhood and then force the RE-CREATION of an eyesore by requiring a perfectly reasonable improvement to be removed because somebody at La Gonda Way got their feelings hurt. Residents of Alamo better take note: Does this sound like the kind of new "incorporation" policy we want? Vote very carefully!
Councilwoman Karen Stepper asked what work needed to be done, saying, "It's hugely improved over what it used to look like. What are they supposed to do?"
How can a huge piece of asphalt and no trees or shrubs possibly be a huge improvement......................
Has karen Stepper ever heard of John Muir or Nature and beauty.
It's just like south of town where the Town Council is voting to allow a beautifull ranch with horses and cows turn into 85 or so Townhouses. Are these the new Danville values. TURN EVERYTHING INTO ASPHALT OR CONCRETE so we remove all semblance of old Danville and old Contra Costa in general. Will they next asphalt in all the grass and dirt around the old school out on Finley road. Beauty for Karen Stepper .........
Bob H: Your comment is as preposterous as the first comment, which said I am the same applicant that wants to put in a swim school at 484 Diablo Road. Now you accuse me of wanting to create an asphalt jungle all over Danville. On the contrary, as a principle leader of the Political Action Committee, WE R ALAMO, I intend to use your comment against Alamo Incorporation Movement (AIM) as an example of how the power a five-member town council, and an ethically-challenged Planning Commission, can harm its citizens and their private property. An incorporated city or town must comply with California state fair housing mandates, which justify exactly what you are objecting to; rezoning and development of open space for multi-family affordable housing. Danville is reinventing itself into a high density urban community and will say "the mandates made me do it."
If you think traffic is bad now along Diablo Road, a main artery into Danville, with freeway off and on ramps, you won't have to worry about me not landscaping a pedestrian pathway; racing to get through the green light in front of my house, drivers will never see how beautiful it is!
I don't understand how Ms. Taylor claims being a "resident of the Danville neighborhood", and then exposes to be an opponent of Alamo incorporation. Shouldn't Alamo residents decide their own fate and those who live outside the area be concerned with their local issues?
The County has so many problems that an incorporated Alamo would not, it would be an intelligent decision for us residents to take charge and vote YES on MEASURE A!
I have lived in the residential community in the Round Hill area of Alamo since 1976. The 484 Diablo Road property is also my property, located in a residential area of Danville. My dispute with Danville is over an ENCROACHMENT PERMIT. What is it you don't understand? Are you one of those proponents for Alamo incorporation making "intelligent decisions?"
First a comment to Bob, who reveals that the Town of Danville is developing 85 townhouses to the South of town. This development is necessitated by what is know in their General Plan as the Housing Element, which requires, under State law, that development be encouraged in ALL incorporated cities to provide for ultra low/very low/low and median income levels in their housing. They are REQUIRED to "maintain an up to date site inventory that details the amount, type and size of vacant and underutilized parcels and assist developers in identifying land suitable for residential development" and "make it available for general circulation to developers and housing advocacy groups." (Town of Danville-Documents-scroll down to VI-Housing Plans, Policy 1.6)
Yes, fellow Alamo resident, posted above, THIS is the fate of Alamo if it's incorporated. No, you'll have no local control; you'll be controlled by the State of California's Housing Mandates, which REQUIRE you go grow in the same way that Danville and all incorporated cities grow. Just go to the State of California Housing Department to see what the future of Alamo will be like if incorporated.

Thanks Geoff Gillette for your Diablo Weekly "Nuisance" article on 484 Diablo Road. Without it I would never have found "someone I can talk to about this." I hope this contact, posted above, helps other Danville neighbors who apply for an ENCROACHMENT PERMIT from the Danville Planning Department, only to find themselves as an agenda item on the December calendar Town Council.

Regarding Jean Taylor as owner of the 484 Diablo Road property. She is indeed running a business out of there with employees and people coming and going and it is in a Residential neighborhood, and if she is trying to convince us that she black topped and lined everything for those that walk past her property, I find it highly unlikely. Why does she has NO TRESPASSING signs up on the front of her property? She has chosen to ignore and not comply with the Towns' request for over a year - why do we put up with this? She is making a fool out of us. She likes to get her own way and feels she is entitled to it. Get with it lady. Comply.
I would like to correct the malicious misinformation in the previous comment dated January 19,2009.
I know Jean Taylor and she does not have a "business with employees coming and going" as the previous comment states. She does however run a non-profit foundation for underprivileged children that she founded and self funded. Through her foundation, Jean has funded everything from cancer and medical research to local hospitals, women's shelters, teachers and public schools, Danville library, environmental organizations, and the list goes on and on. Jean has the highest ethical standards and most integrity of any person I know.
Replacing the dilapidated pedestrian walkway in front of 484 Diablo Road was a huge improvement for the neighbors in wheel chairs and mothers with babies in strollers walking to town. The no trespassing signs are due to having a residential property directly next door to a public shopping center.
In terms of your comment about Jean making a fool out of you, you certainly don't need any help from her.
