Buchanan running for Congress

Original post made on Apr 24, 2009

Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan of Alamo has announced that she is in the running to replace U.S. Rep. Ellen Tauscher, congresswoman for District 10. Buchanan, a Democrat, was elected to the state Assembly in November in a close race against San Ramon Mayor Abram Wilson.

Maybe everyone over 25 years old, registered to vote in the USA, not in jail or on parole, should look in to running. Those are the only qualifications needed to run for CD-10 in CA! Ellen hasn't even been vetted or her nomination to State been approved by Congress yet, nor does Steve Weir have the budget to keep running all of these Special Elections.

Dear Dolores,

Many are wishing Joan success in her campaign but challenge her to look to Ellen Tauscher and her exceptional staff for mentoring in service to our 10th Congressional District. Joan will be asked to continue the global relations expertise, global humanitarian focus, expert fiscal planning, and focused voice of our regional issues and economic development. Ms. Tauscher and staff can provide how-to in maintaining a strong independence on behalf of our district.

Any candidate faces the challenge of replacing an exceptional Congress member, Ellen O. Tauscher, but voters expect nothing less. WE should expect the best and not just hope for the best, so we need to be part of the immediate success of the candidates we choose by being part of their mentoring for service to our district.

Other voters' thoughts?

Hal

Dear enlightened voters,

We need to stop this ridiculous (and expensive) game of musical chairs and the domino effect. The only was to do this is to make darn sure we don't elect a current office holder to fill any of the open elective positions, starting with Tauscher's seat.

If we do elect someone already in office to fill Tauscher's seat, it will just create an endless game of election leapfrog.

Head 'em off at the pass, I say. Elect only newcomers to politics - they'll probably do a much better job for us anyway!

Dear Dolores,

Ron has excellent reasons for wanting to stop the political hopscotch that does not allow various representatives to complete their term of service owed to our community. I am sure that Alamo has some very exceptional, globally-qualified management talent that could be "quicker on their feet" in Congress, but I am also quite sure they do not want the job.

So I would like to challenge your Forum readers to propose a list of candidates that would suitable for Congress and any of the State Jobs left vacant by Assembly members Buchanan or DeSaulnier. The recent test in Alamo showed that we have trouble attracting the best among us to political office.

Candidates please?

Hal, as a community courtesy

Let's review.

Board of Education to State Assembly
State Assembly for less than a year then to Congress

I don't think so.

No on Buchanan for Congress
