It's amazing how the economy works for BART. When the economic is bad, ridership is low, people losing jobs, trains being filthy both inside and outside, the permanently disabled elevators and the security being so-so, the BART board decided to raise the fares.
Isn't it time to attract more people by providing more benefits? Look at the airlines -- when they faced with a similar situation, they started lowering fares to attract more people.

It's no longer a bargain when the trains don't run on time and packed. BART should know that TIME is MONEY.
Has any observed how proudly the BART announcers that all station elevators are working ... I guess, this is to amuse the tourists as they know that by the time they leave the city, another announcement would come about some other elevator is out of service.
