Evan was a GREAT GUY!! I had the privilege of flying in the Navy with him back in 1988. We were in VP-9 out of Moffett Field, CA. He was my navigator on Crew 8.
Funny story - so we are flying night missions out of Saudi Arabia in the summer of 88'. The galley we were getting our meals from had these sandwiches with a very very odd looking sliced meat in them. Being in Saudi we figured it must be some type of beef!? Well Evan figured out that if you toasted the sandwich for a few minutes in our oven that they tasted much better! So here is Evan at 3am, flying in the gulf neat Iran... over the PA system on the aircraft he says joking.. "Hey guys - these camel-meat sandwiches aren't too bad if you toast them for like 5 minutes". Well, he didn't realize the VHF radio button was also selected... so a second later, in a very clear, very proper English voice, yet slightly confused.. we all hear the air traffic controller reply.. "Aircraft calling - Please repeat your last about the camel meat!"
We teased him about that for a long time!
Although I've not seen Even in over 21 years... I still feel a horrible loss of a very good friend.
