I believe that the Danville Express should be ashamed to have printed a story like this. I don't know this man, and I don't condone this. But have known some people in the past that have done similar acts to try to keep up with the circle.

In general, a local publication like the Danville Express should refrain from posting a story that twists the knife in the back of the person in question. Although this man might have done wrong, acted criminally, or without the best judgment, he did not act against another person. This is not news. He didn't defraud thousands of people like Madoff did which is news.

I'm finding that more and more the Danville Express is throwing questionable material in their publication. There are many many residents here, alamo, and in between that do some pretty shady stuff to keep up with the Jones'.

Show some class.

The above story has been published in all bay area papers including the Contra Costa Times, why not the Danville Express? I suppose some people would enjoy reading just the "happy feel good" news of the community. Personally, I believe the Danville Express is doing our community a service by reporting on such incidents, such as local pot houses with weapons, local teenage car thieves, local rape suspects, and local convicted child pornographers, and by posting the police log weekly, etc.

Small towns in the past kept crime rates low through the reporting and discussion of such crimes, petty or not, where everybody, knew everybody, which could prove embarrassing to the offending party. If you want your name out of the paper keep your nose clean, cheating, stealing, and taking unadvisable criminal risk, does occassionally have consequences, especially when you are caught.

Danville Express provides a great service to our community by reporting such incidents.

You're right. All of those things you mentioned are absolutely a service to the community.

The story that was written was of no service to the community, what so ever.

A crime is a crime. It's not ok. Cheating the government does hurt all people. Doing it for other people's opinions makes it even more wrong.

When a criminal is caught, it is a DETERRENT to other criminals. I want crooks to know that not only will they be caught, their name will be in the media. This is a HUGE service to the community.

Are you kidding me El J? You really believe that this guy did not act against anybody, and that it is not news? As our state and country get deeper and deeper in debt, paying for a person to keep up with the Jones' is not my idea of a good time! Trust me. If he has no problem doing this, he is not a good person. You El J, are just as bad for thinking that this is OK. It is a sad day when is considered normal behavior to cheat and lie.

I for one, am happy that his name is made public. Wrong is wrong, a lie is a lie, and I hope he has to pay back every dime!

You have to give Mr. McAdam credit for thinking big. To quote Dr. Phil, "What was he thinking?" El J you have to be given credit also for taking an unorthodox contrarian position. "What are you thinking?" Some crimes are better than others? Where is the knife twisting? Are the only crimes worth reporting those which have violence attached? Think about it.

Posted by Dick, a resident of Alamo

It absolutely should be published. It is news. And to say he "didn't defraud thousands of people like Madoff" is laughable. If true, he attempted to steal over $5 million from us all. Perhaps this is more of a reflection on the attitude that cheating on taxes is OK. Maybe this hit a few too close to home.

You really think that after all this they didn't know that he was a liar and a thief in his business dealings.

You think they never heard about the problems and went along with it all the time. ?????

Bob,

Hold on there, why would his kids have any idea about what was going on with their father's business business dealings? It's one thing to not feel empathy for his wife, but it's another thing to slam the kids for having know about this (or calling them stupid for not having know).

He will do less than five in minimum security and if he is smart he did some midnight gardening and has the five million tucked away. Files BK and discharges the debt with IRS. Works out to a million a year for him and we have to feed him and pay for his cell/any medical..
Better than building homes in this economy!

Robert McAdams is a thief and a liar. He stole from us and more. I do not doubt he made a fortune scamming people, doing sub-standard work, etc. and this charge doesn't surprise in the least. While I doubt he will be punished, he deserves to be. One thing I know for sure: he will be judged and not by a silly human being!

P.S. I think stories like this SHOULD be printed to alert the public. We tried for years to tell people he was a thief but seeing it in print may, actually, make a difference.

Good Friend? sounds like a squirrel that worked on a house my company also worked on in Alamo. No, I didn't get paid in full for my work either. But it wasn't McAdams fault, rather, the fault of the homeowner who stiffed him for hundreds of thousands of dollars which would have paid me and everyone else for our work on that house. I have a pretty good idea who Good friend? is, and if it is who I think it is, then he sure didn't do any work to justify drawing any amount of pay. I would have fired this strutting peacock right quick if he was working for us. But that McAdam guy tried to keep everyone happy, including us and his own workers just burned him.

Posted by Just A Fellow Contractor, a resident of another community

The people reading these posts should realize one very important thing. No matter how hard a Contractor tries, it is absolutely impossible to make every homeowner or employee happy. In many cases, speaking from personal experience, the homeowner makes changes to the original contract without regard to extra charges that may apply and runs out of money before the project is completed. Sometimes this leads to the Contractor taking the loss for the extras costs and often, losing on the original contract pricing. All in an effort to make the homeowners project have thier personal touch. Ask these folks claiming to have been cheated to prove it before posting in this public forum. Same with that disgruntled employee who claims to have lost $30,000! I mean, come on. A sub contractor could claim 30 grand, but an employee? That's 20 plus weeks without a paycheck. No one works 20 weeks free. In this case, 1+1 doesn't seem to add up to 2!
And as far as his tax problems, give the guy a break. Do you really think he filed fraud tax returns KNOWING they were false and he would go to jail? If he was dying or didn't have a family, maybe it would make sense. But in this case, it just seems the IRS and OBAMA are doing whatever they can to stomp on US Citizens to collect money to fund all the Government waste. Think about what you know and hear regarding taxes and such.
So, take what you read in the original newspost, and definately what you read in this comment posts with a grain of salt and a wary eye.

I know this guy personally. Is he a crook? I don't think so.
Does he have a criminal mentality? Not that I ever saw.
Did he intentionally defraud the IRS? Maybe, but I lean towards doubting he would do that. He might have done something truly stupid based on some advise from someone else who is actually intentionally committing fraud, but he just wouldn't do something he saw as obviously leading to potential prison time.
Also, the article says he filed fraudulent claims. Not that he received any refunds. I see this guy around town all the time. His lifestyle hasn't changed or in any way indicated he has - or had - an influx of $5+ million dollars.

Im Just Another Flipping Contractor Online. No one special and I don't know this guy. I work out of the Sacramento Area and feel bad for this guy. You see, I have had my license suspended and revoked several times back when I did residential contract work. What a headache homeowners can be when they realize they are about to run out of money and thier house still needs floors, cabinets and paint. Can you guess what happens when the Contractor walks off the job when the homeowner says he can't pay for the rest of the work but still wants the Contractor to finish the job, "per the contract"? Let me spell it out for you, the homeowner freeks out, files a complaint against the Contractor for 'abandonment', 'charges beyond contract rate' and 'contract fraud'. This instantly puts the Contractors license in suspended status, which pretty much kills any job that Contractor has in progress which earns him the money needed to; a) finish or continue work on that or any job, and b) feed his family and pay his bills. That overbudget homeowner has basically placed a ransom on that Contractors license thru the State Board, which eventually can be corrected by means of review, or in most cases, by taking the loss to cover the homeowners budget deficit simply to protect his license.
Having been in shoes similar to what this guy is going through, (apparently, since I don't know all the specific facts, as it appears no one posting here does), I can see where he might try to recover some loss through tax relief. Or what he may believe is tax relief, but which is really a non-existant loophole being offered online. (Yes, I have seen this and yes, I also considered it, but chickened out at the last minute.) So what does that make him? He is not convicted at this time, so he isn't a criminal. I think it might be apt to call him "stupid" or "desperate". His best bet would have been to stop dealing with underbudgeted homeowners and just build market spec homes or better yet, just buy and sell flip properties, like I eventually gravitated to instead of filing for government relief by way of bogus tax refunds.
Here is a question: Has anyone actually looked to see why his license is revoked? (I haven't, but would be willing to do so if one of you people haven't done so already). And as that (?)Spanish poster asked, is his tax filings connected to his license revocation? If not, then why does this thread even mention his Contractors license? Wait! I see it was that disgruntled employee "Good Friend?" that brought his license into play here.

For all those that have been screwed by or don't know Robert, I can assure you that Robert believes he does not have to pay income taxes. For years he has bragged at his sons sporting events that "He NEVER pays taxes" and that the IRS "can not make him pay them".

Part of his defense will be his belief that the US Government can NOT make him pay. For everything Robert is or is not, I do believe he REALLY believes this. And I know he has his poor wife convinced of that as well as she is walking around town like this is a big mistake and they are being picked on by the Government.

That said he will will be forced to pay up and karma will kick him in the ass when he is sentenced to 18+ years in Jail, his kids will have to drop out of private schools and actually attend public schools in Alamo and his wife will have liens placed on everything she is left with. In the end the McAdam's after it all will believe they were still right and the government was wrong. In the end it is the boys that will pay the heaviest price from such a misunderstood belief or misplaced trust that he could get away with this forever.

I don't understand how someone can "BELIEVE" they don't need to pay taxes when they drive on the roads that the government built and attend the boys sports events at schools that the government built, aka "all the rest of us who pay our taxes".

Robert McAdams IS a liar and a thief. He should be punished. He took on my job and was paid every time he asked, no questions, no stalling. He was also VERY particular about how my check was made out too! Now I understand why. He suddenly stopped working and disappeared from the work site and the work was never completed even though he had been given a $45,000 check. Found out he was doing wrong work at the job site too. He should not be allowed to work as a contractor. I do not feel sorry for him at all. He demonstrated very clearly that he is untruthful.

To Been Had,
Not at all. Why? Are you? I just imagined you might want to have a chat regarding why you would want me to hire MacAdams to work on my home. Seems to me like his Contracting abilities aren't in question regarding his tax problems. And having experience with Contractors, I can easily see why some are complaining about him as a Contractor. Oddly, this article was referencing his charges on tax issues, but people have taken advantage of this forum to whine about unrelated issues. And not one of those whiners has posted a name or address where thier official complaints can be verified through the State Contractors Board. So this leads one to surmise that none of these whiners are real and that they are web trolls spouting lies about an individual who already has unsurmountable troubles and may not deserve the defamatory comments being posted by whiners and trolls. So, if these whiners tales of woe are indeed true, and they presume others will read thier posts and be safe from a potentially bad Contractor, why not let thier stories be verified so everyone can indeed avoid a potentially bad Contracting experience with this Contractor.
So Been Had, I have returned the ball to your court. Care to allow your story to be verified? I wonder? Maybe you're actually Good friend? posting under a different member name?

I just did a little online checking. Is the temporary power house Been Had keeps referring to known as 299 Lost Quebradasas<Spelling>?
If it is, the documents show several irrefutable facts that must be exposed here, even though the original article references taxes, not Contracting Integrity.
1: McAdams wasn't the Contractor on that house. He is listed as owner/builder. So his Contractors License shouldn't be in question on this property sale, or the build.
2: The property sale, as listed with title insurance documents, shows a Dale Bridges as the realtor and contractual responsible party concerning correcting a temporary power condition and missing partition doors<or doorway?>. McAdams is listed as agreeing to the completion of these conditions, but not liable party for incomplete work.
3: There appears to be some right-of-way issues not related to this property, but which McaAdams is attempting to correct through legal channels.
So Been Had, please shed some light on this topic since you seem to either be directly involved with the property by way of having purchased it, or one of the subs that built it. Come forward please. We in the community would like to know what really is happening and perhaps how we can assist you in some way. (If you are genuinely damaged, of course!)

Don't know about the status of the subs. I would imagine if they didn't get paid yet, they will at some point in the future. The collapse of the Real Estate industry really hurt everyone. Especially high end builders like Bob McAdam. As for me, I am happy just to be working in the trades building homes and getting to know Bobs customers. Ultimately, I don't care if I get paid or not and figure I'm pretty lucky he doesn't charge me to teach me the multitude of intricacies involved in building high quality homes.
And Thanks for jumping in to clear my name when Loves Baseball mistook me for Tony.

Hey McAdams, I heard some buzz about your case. If you tried to do what I think you did concerning IRS, stand your ground. You may be crushed by this repressive and Gestapo Government, but there is no reason why you shouldnt hold your head high in your community. As a Citizen of the United States of Kiss My A**, you have every right to try to reduce, avoid or defer your taxes.
As to all the Contractor related crap I see everyone posting, thats another issue that you might consider working on in the future to keep customers happy, IF these people are even customers with ligitimate gripes.

Strutting Peacock here laughing at most of the stupid comments made here by people who do not know anything about the situation. Glad I'm lazy and "don't know nothing"... since I got ripped of by bob, I have done a bathroom remodel, 1,600 square feet of wood floor and a couple of smaller jobs (no help except the tile), paid taxes on it as self employed, WOW what a concept bob! I paid of my debt incurred by bob, paid of my truck 3 years early, and in less than a month I'm going to europe for 5 weeks (rented a car to drive around the continent). During the 2 years I also received my EPA universal certificate, completed and became a build it green member and also became a certified HERS rater. As far as not working at the job site, well I speak english and trying to deal with several, mostly low end subs who usually didn't have any english speaking workers, wonder why??? wasn't easy. "Loves baseball" if your not bob, which I think you are. Who are you? You got alot to say behind the loves baseball name, I think everybody here would like to know the company you own...Chow for now:)

P.S. funny how JAFCO says I brought up the license, seems to me the first time it was mentioned was by Law-abiding contractor? I also only posted as good friend? No nothing about the others but I believe them more than bob... Richard as a clinical Psychologist you lose....See you in court bob, oops my mistake you won't show...

Hello People.
I have been considering using Robert McAdams for my total home remodel. Now that I have been reading all these posts, I am concerned.
One concern is, of course, that the people claiming to have been wronged are legitimatly harmed by McAdams. Another concern is that these posts are made by persons with personal beefs not related to his construction standards at all. As far as his legal issues, I figure that is his personal problem and as long as his work is supervised and payment schedules carefully regulated and matched to the performed construction phases, shouldn't have any affect on any builds he is involved in.
Which brings me to this question. Would any of you who say McAdams has screwed you - be willing to chat with me about your experience in greater detail other than just posting that you have been screwed and not explaining the circumstances of your experience? Or, alternately, would you at least be willing to re-post here with a more detailed description of your experience with McAdams?
If you have real claims, I would have to opt out of having this Contractor build our dream home.
Thank you everyone for whatever you can divuldge that will help me with this major decision.

Dear John Case,

I would not rely solely upon hearsay from the community regarding the selection of a general contractor for the construction of your dream home. Rather I would suggest that you reseasrch your prospective contractor through the State of California Contractors License Board.

Web Link=

At this State of California website you will see that Robert Lance Mc Adams license was revoked on 10/04/10, and subsequently you will also be able to review the specific complaint and detailed decision for such action by the state.

Posted by John Case, a resident of Alamo
on May 21, 2011 at 6:32 pm

To CA License Board,
Thank you for that link. With it I was able to do quite a bit of investigating that Farconei (sp?) case. Additionally, I was able to actually speak with some neighbors of that Los Queabradas House and they all were quite knowledgable about most or all of the facts involved with that Case. I even attempted to contact the buyers of that home, but they were not home and never called me.
So here is what I found out. First and foremost, though McAdam lost that CLB case, it was from default resulting from not responding to the claim. Irrespective of the validity of any case or claim, if the Contractor fails to appear or respond, that Contractor automatically loses. Mcadam appears to have fallen into this category.
Next, after investigating the root cause of the claim, and checking title records pertaining to that Real Estate transaction, it appears to me that Mcadam was never a "Contractor" on that house construction and therefore his license should have never been in jeopardy. He built that home as "owner/builder" and sold it as such. In the sales contract he agreed to provide certain finishes and changes to the home as a condition of sale, which it appears he never concluded, (yes, I personally witnessed power lines passing over the home and touching the homes roof!). So the homeowners, the Farconies, do indeed ahave a legitimate claim against Mcadam contractually, but in no way should that claim have been approved by the board had they been presented with contract evidence. (The claim should have been filed in Civil court, which I think a case is pending. Haven't found public info on that yet.)
So it is my opinion, barring any additional offered evidence to the contrary in this forum or anywhere, that McAdam lost his license as a result of simply not responding to the claim, and not for anything he actually did using his license in an official capacity.
In closing, I don't think I will use McAdam as a Contractor to build my home even if he gets his License re-instated. Not because I fear he would do a bad job or rip me off, rather because I would be concerned about some of you people out there making these claims - burning my home down or something equally terrible as some sort of revenge against McAdam. (Oh, and all the people I spoke with that knew McAdam and the Farconie home, stated that the home is overbuilt far beyond normal building practices. That home is incredible, too! Beautiful and solid in appearance & design.)

To Carl and Nick
Is that Casa Rivera house on Smith Road owned by that greasy piece of pig vomit Jason Rivera? Now that is a real criminal that needs to be put down like the rabid dog he is.
Mr. Big Shot baseball player. What a joke that guy was playing ball and what a joke he is now pretending to be a legitimate taxpayer when in reality he is nothing more than a Cocaine Dealer. Jason Rivera will be in the news soon. Read about his drug bust, probably about the same time as he sells that house on Smith Road.

I live close to the Rivera House. Let me tell you, there is some fishy stuff going on over there. I agree with Snitch. I think that Jason Rivera guy is a drug dealer. Not a dime bag type, but the suitcase full of cash type.
Why everyone is worried about that MacAdams guy and not trying to get this major threat to our neighborhood out is unbelievable.

I wondered what those "wise guy" looking people were up to at that big house on the corner. We didnot know that creepy family was tied to Baseball. We did however always think they were into some aspect of the drug trade, especially when our neighbor came over and mentioned the FBI and DEA had interviewed them and other neighbors about the activities at that Rivera house.

We live on Marks Road and pass that abomination of a home on Smith Road at all times of the day and night. I assure you fellow readers that that family is up to no good. We were also visited by a drug task force that included an aagent from the FBI and one from the DEA. They believe Jason Rivera is deeply involved in high value Cocaine Trafficking, Tax Fraud and Money Laundering.
We need to get this cancerous criminal out of our neighborhood and safely tucked away in a Federal Prison! Stupid people like Mcadams are not the problem in our community. Dangerous people like the Riveras are.

WE LIVE AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE RIVERAS. LEAVE THEM ALONE. THEY CAN SELL DRUGS OR WHATEVER THEY WANT AS LONG AS IT DOESNT EFFECT US WHO LIVE CLOSEBY. THAT MACADAMS GUY IS THE REAL CREEP. NOT THE RIVERAS. MACADAMS HAS BEEN ENDITED. NOT THE RIVERAS. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINES AND LET THEM LIVE IN THIER HOUSE IN PEACE.

"yet another neighbor" reads like it might be a kid. Perhaps a relative of the Riveras? Or Jason Rivera himself responding - yet masking himself as a child?
How 'bout it Jason Rivera? Care to come to the podium? Surely you have some comment in defense of your good name? Maybe you would like to comment on how McAdams screwed you as a contractor? Are you in fact a victim of a crooked Contractor? Are you a mucky muck member of some Cocaine Syndicate? Do tell.

Here's an idea: tie this Rivera guy up and throw him in the pond. If he floats, well then he 'might' not be guilty -- but you can torture him 'til he confesses, and if he STILL won't admit to being pig vomit, or worse, pile rocks on his chest until he can't breathe, and dies. Problem solved!

It worked so well in Salem.

Sorry about the nickname. I am in Law Enforcement. My position precludes my ability to name myself openly. But after getting wind of this blog naming Jason Rivera as a potential drug trafficker, I just couldn't resist the urge to confirm that as fact for the people living nearby to the Riveras.

My nephew just went into drug rehab. He said he was a customer of this Riviera guy. Cocaine and Marijuana were what he bought from this deviate. My nephew spent $40,000+ on drugs from Riviera. Lost his home, his marriage, his children and his job. I hope the Feds bury this MF forever!

So it appears that McAdam, who allegedly screwed everyone, including the good Citizens of Alamo as well as the Feds, was associated with what appears to be the biggest drug dealer in the County. So who is the bad guy here? McAdam for trying to fudge his taxes, or Rivera, who is selling toxins to the youth of Alamo?

Robert McAdam borrowed over 4.5 million dollars and failed to pay subcontractors,
cheated me out of money. Lending money to McAdam was the equivalent of lending
money to a"convicted arsonist" during the 2006 - 2008 299 Las Quebradas Lane,Alamo

Aloha. McAdam was a victim of a nosediving economy and the professional con of that Dale Bridges real estate agent that made promises to both the Farconis and McAdam. That deal was a double sucker punch. If Mcadam committed fraud agaibst the Government, then he needs to burn. For sure that Demon - Bridges - should join him just as a matter of righteous justice.

I also bought a car from Mr. Dale Bridges. Mr. Bridges is crooked as a dogs hind leg. And worst part of my buying that car wasn't the overpricing, (though the car itself was solid and reliable), rather, Mr. Bridges actually tried to get me to sleep with him! And he was married!

Dale Bridges should have a chance to defend himself before anyone passes judgement. Of course, word on the street is that Bridges is indeed not the honest salesman he probably wishes folks thought he is.
