An Alamo ad hoc committee is pursuing the removal of Hap Magee Ranch Park, including the SRV YMCA property, from Alamo and R-7A boundaries. Alamo residents recognize that Hap Magee Ranch Park and the SRV YMCA property have no value or purpose for Alamo residents. The reality is that Hap Magee is used by Danville residents and belongs in Danville's sphere of influence outside of Alamo and R-7A boundaries.
As we all know, only a few Alamo residents use parks and programs provided by R-7A funding. CCLAFCO detailed this reality last year and a recent R-7A survey confirmed a very low interest among the >13,000 residents in <5000 residences surveyed. With Alamo residents now asked to increase R-7A appropriations via Measure F on June 7, Alamo neighborhood groups are focusing on uses of R-7A funding that serves more Alamo residents. Alamo residents' interests in natural open space protection, native landscaping, walking paths, school-based self-directed recreation facilities, ridgeline protection and more preservation of our area's native and natural beauty are the focus of residents for R-7A funding.
Decisions by Danville and the county to determine the sphere of influence impacting Hap Magee Ranch Park should invite your readers to consider Hap Magee Ranch Park's future.
Sorry to have missed this conversation -- does anyone know whether there are plans for another dog park? Hap Magee is terrific and a victim of its own popularity -- why, I've even seen dogs from Alamo there!
That dog park is now closed one day/week for what is called maintenance -- I suspect it's at least as much related to reducing wear/tear. Solution, it seems to me, is to add a second park -- at Osage where it floods very occasionally (therefore no sports fields affected) or along the Iron Horse just north of Sycamore to the 680 overpass, or on the east side somewhere.
Dog parks are a genuine source of community for People -- I've made many friends there whom I'd never have met otherwise in our cloistered little burg.
Would it be possible to get more than 15-hours' notice of this kind of meeting, here?
Don't miss out on the discussion!
