Streetwise: What do you think of our new lane construction project?

Original post made on Aug 4, 2011

In this week's Streetwise, Roving Reporter Stan Wharton went to San Ramon Valley Boulevard and Sycamore Valley Road to ask residents what they think about the lane construction at the same location.

Dear Editor,

Asking a question before presenting the story is like peanut butter without blue cheese. No one quite understands it.

To prepare our 680 south corridor residents for the possibility of a frightening experience, could you please describe what lane is where and why, if there is a why or for that matter a where. It would provide guidance in our adventures as we venture forth and aft.

Of Ralph lost in his circumstances, smiling.

Ralph, agreed, odd way to present a story. Had to click on the pictures to read the response from 3 whole people!

It's a mess but easy to fix. Have both lanes turning from SRV Blvd., turn into the nearest lane on Sycamore Valley Blvd. Motorists that want to get on 680 can do so from the right lane only. Folks trying to get on 680 from the inside lane get a ticket, as it was all along.

By the way, everytime they do work on the 680 overpass they make it worse. There must be a better use of our tax dollars.

It seems to me that the far left hand turn lane backs up much more than before and even makes it difficult to get out of the Lucky's parking lot!

I think this lane change at Sycamore and San Ramon Blvd after so many years is extremely dangerous and backs up traffic in the left lane. Many drivers in the left want to advance to Camino Ramon and now have to make 2 lane changes. It was a huge waste of taxpayer dollars.

And where was the disclosure and notice of this "construction project" beforehand and public review and feedback?
How do I miss hearing about these things beforehand? I live in Danville. I try to keep in touch with the news. I have a Danville mailing address. Why do most of us only hear about these type issues after they have already been started into construction.
Danville planners and Counsel think that they know best for us. And they OFTEN have faulty logic and design plans that cost a lot of money and end up with blatant problems in design/usage, at least in my opinion. Most of the lanes surrounding that Sycamore bridge have been screwed up on many sides. (Sorry, I'm not going to take the time to give examples.)
Ask us first! Get our insights and ideas--we can make these "changes" be better from the start (and not need so many re-fixings or resulting in lasting problems for future generations).
For what the Planners get paid, I'm NOT impressed over the years!!!

Sounds like there is little disagreement on this fiasco.
The traffic "planners" should get a special (that's special as in "I will read to you v e r y s l o w l y...") award for creating a turn that manages to be dangerous for both long time residents and those unfamiliar with with intersection & 680 on-ramp. How many accidents have there already been? How many more will there be in the next few years from people suddenly realizing they are in an on-ramp only lane?
Don't our planners have other work to do, like schilling for developers?

Derek, If you learned how to drive you would notice the sign before the intersection that states right late - 680S
