Council passes smoking, marijuana dispensary bans

Original post made on Sep 21, 2011

The Danville Town Council unanimously voted on Tuesday to adopt smoking and medical marijuana bans within town limits. The Danville municipal Code will now ban medical marijuana dispensaries within Danville town limits and prohibit cigarette smoking on all town-owned and maintained recreational facilities.

The council should revisit its decision based on the Rand study. Web Link

This is why I love this city...They still look out for the core of a community. If you want to buy your grass keep it out of my neighborhood....go to Dublin or Walnut Creek. We like to keep Danville just the way it is.

Carl Raff your focus is correct...But Carl you are dreaming if you think they will revisit decision.

B. Yari, You are right they will buy else where and come home to Danville and smoke and party.

Alan, Eagle and the others...you are misguided. You will never keep your little town clean from Marijuana. Now, if you really want to want to clean up your little paradise try dealing with the drinking issues that's a much bigger problem...buy the blinders are on when boos is mentioned.

And by the way Alan, I see you are from the Blackhawk area. No marijuana in your neighborhood...right. Dream on Alan.

Danville, what a beautiful, clean community...RIGHT

Go Alamo...Thank you for listening, Julia Pardini from progressive Alamo.

I think they didn't Quite go far enough.

Next, they should rule that tobacco products can only be sold through medical marijuana dispensaries. Booze, too.

At this stage of the development of the legitimization of marijuana market, I agree that Danville not have a dispensary.... however

Will the "town council" be touting the same thing when the money from new housing developments begins to disappear from Danville's coffers as fewer houses are built? And as a result, they can't find enough revenues to fund their bloated staff and their greedy retirements?

There will come a day to be sure when the benefits of local sales tax revenues from marijuana sales will outweigh the supposed righteousness of the marijuana moralists.

Tobacco and Alcohol are far far great scourges on communities than marijuana ever has been and ever will be. How many of our teens have died over the last ten years due to alcohol?, most of us can name several... due to marijuana?

Sorry pals, the gateway drug is not marijuana... it is the drug you buy in the stores and pour down your throats - AlCoHol! Because it is illegal, highschool students have created a HUGE and secret society of drinkers. And since it is hidden from parents, all sorts of unwanted things occur. You are a fool to think that the party society is not RAGING at the high school level, right under our very noses.

Everyone should listen to what Mr. John Tanner just said.

He is so correct. Most of you Danville folks think you in paradise and the only reason you think that way is because your heads are buried in the sand. See no evil, so you think there is no evil.

Mr. Tanner is correct about Alcohol usage in Danville.

Marijuana is kids play...Alcoholism is the major issue.

I have a couple of friends who do use medical marijuana given to them by their doctors for pain....I don't necessarily think if there was a place to get this in Danville that it would cause major problems ! there are drugs in every town of various kinds....folks who do not believe this are like the above article their heads are in the sand....a medical dispensary is not like going to some dealers place ! I think the comment about going to Dublin or Walnut Creek was rather sarcastic..I have lived here for over twenty years and I do love the own of Danville BUT if folks here think there are not problems in our town then they should read our police log !
I do think it is good about banning smoking in our park areas .Very annoying when coming out of a restaurant or any kind of store only to breath in smoke ! Heard long ago you need to be so many yards away from a store opening....but do not think that works as again it is pretty bad to walk into the clouds of smoke from a cigarette !

Carl Raff

You need to do a bit more research as the RAND study is completely flawed. The Town of Danville made the correct decision!

Marijuana is already freely available in Danville. Just ask any high schooler.

Excellent post John Tanner. Let's toss oxycotine
into this legal drug mess and number two killer of
teens in the US. Twenty percent of oxy addicts DIE!
Our efforts need to focus on this legal substance through
education and public awareness.
