Crime down, traffic collisions up according to annual report

Last week, the Danville Police Department released its annual report for 2011. Crime statistics show a decrease in aggravated assault, robbery and property crimes, but noticed a slight increase in burglaries.

Distracted driving is becoming a big issue. I see many drivers still talking on a cell phone or texting while driving--and weaving all over the road.

Here is a big reason for the incredible 21.8% increase in traffic collisions: more cars driving on Danville roads. And now Danville is moving full steam ahead on the SummerHill Homes development which will add over 1000 more car trips per day onto one of the most dangerous stretches in Danville: the winding portion of Diablo Road between Mt. Diablo Scenic and Green Valley Road. Watch for an increase in wrecks if that ill-conceived project is approved!
